Parks &  Recreation

  • Chesapeake City Park The famous Fun Forest Playground, dog park, walking trails, picnic shelters, skate park and the annual Chesapeake Jubilee.
  • Northwest River Park 763 acre park  with year round boating, fishing, hiking and 18 hole disc golf course.
  • Chesapeake Arboretum 48 acres of nature promoting horticulture and  environmental awareness.  Features 3 acre Lake Hughes, walking trails with 8 bridges, picnic areas and Caleb Williamson Farm House- c1830's.
  • Lake Drummond Located in the  Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife Refuge. The best fishing is for Crappie in the spring and has a maximum depth of six feet.
  • Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex A 90,000 square foot facility consists of two NFL skating rinks. They offer public skating, birthday parties, adult  and youth hockey and is the training center for the Norfolk Admirals.
  • Elizabeth River Park 12.6 acre park located along Scuffletown Creek, a tributary of the southern branch of the Elizabeth River.  It has one of the most active boat ramps in Hampton Roads.

The Chesapeake Public School system  is the seventh largest in the state of Virginia according to BallotPedia in 2014. The school system consists of 28 Pre-K & Elementary schools, 10 Middle Schools  and 7 High Schools . There is also two center schools: Chesapeake Alternate School and Chesapeake Center for Science and Technology.  There are 32 private schools in Chesapeake which includes 7 high schools. Atlantic Shores Christian  and Greenbrier Christian Academy are the two largest serving 600-700 students. Chesapeake schools rank 14 out of 131 schools in Virginia.
